Abstract
Several applications of Fluid Mechanics lead to Inverse Problems. An application in aerodynamics consists in finding the geometry (profile shape) which results in a certain flow variable distribution (pressure, velocity, temperature). Since the flow governing equations do not allow explicit inversion, iterative methods are used. Due to the complexity of those models the computational cost is usually high (especially in optimization methods). An iterative fixed point algorithm based on the coupling of an auxiliary equation to the Navier-Stokes equations will be presented. A series of tests demonstrate the efficiency of this technique for problems in aerodynamics.
