Rio de Janeiro has been known as the “wonderful city” long before one of its landmarks was officially included into the Seven Wonders of Modern World. Its contrasting landscape of rocky mountains, the world’s largest urban forest, lakes and an unending beach line can only be matched in beauty by its warm, gentle and hospitable people: the “cariocas”. The recently renovated downtown and old harbor areas add to a new contrast between tradition and modernity, although keeping our “carioca” aura.
A Conference of the ASCE / Engineering Mechanics Institute
The EMI Conference in Rio de Janeiro will be an excellent opportunity for interactions and exchanges within the global mechanics community, in general, and shall offer the South American engineers, in particular, a chance to become familiar with the EMI and ASCE activities (http://www.asce.org/engineering-mechanics/engineering-mechanics-institute/).
The attendant will be offered the opportunity of developing invaluable international peer collaboration and network initiatives, which may include taking part on several EMI committee meetings.

MODELING AND SIMULATION OF AEROSPACE STRUCTURES LINEAR AND NONLINEAR DYNAMICS

The main focus of this Mini-Symposium is on the discussion of modeling and simulation of the linear and nonlinear dynamical behavior of aerospace structures (such as airplanes, rockets, satellites etc.), and how these problems can be understood and solved in view of numerical, computational, theoretical and experimental approaches. Contributions pertaining to any class of mathematical problems and methods associated to the linear and nonlinear dynamics and stability of aerospace structures will be welcome. It will also be considered experimental investigations of these problems to validate mathematical and numerical models.
