PROGRAMA DOUTORAL EM MATEMÁTICA E APLICAÇÕES DAS UNIVERSIDADES DE AVEIRO E MINHO, PORTUGAL

O Programa Doutoral em Matemática e Aplicações resulta de uma associação entre os Departamentos de Matemática das Universidades de Aveiro e do Minho, e é apoiado nas unidades de investigação CEOC (http://ceoc.mat.ua.pt), CMAT (http://www.cmat.uminho.pt) and UIMA (http://ma.mat.ua.pt).
Inclui um 1º ano curricular organizado de modo a permitir que cada aluno tenha oportunidade de ter uma iniciação à investigação em matemática, seguido de três anos dedicados a actividades de investigação e escrita da tese. O ano curricular terá lugar alternadamente nas duas universidades e as aulas decorrerão em português ou inglês, conforme apropriado. A tese poderá ser escrita em português ou inglês.

A segunda edição do Programa inicia-se em Outubro de 2008, decorrendo o 1º ano na Universidade do Minho. Nos três anos seguintes, os estudantes efectuarão o seu trabalho de preparação da tese na universidade do orientador.

A 1ª fase de candidaturas para a edição de 2008/09 termina a 14 de Abril. O Programa dispõe de um pequeno número de bolsas que serão atribuídas numa base concorrencial. DOCTORAL PROGRAMME IN MATHEMATICS AND APPLICATIONS OF THE UNIVERSITIES OF AVEIRO AND MINHO, PORTUGAL

The Doctoral Programme in Mathematics and Applications is a joint offer of the Departments of Mathematics of the Universities of Aveiro and Minho, in Portugal, and is backed up by the mathematical research units CEOC (http://ceoc.mat.ua.pt), CMAT (http://www.cmat.uminho.pt) and UIMA (http://ma.mat.ua.pt).

The Programme contains an initial two semester standard courses component which includes a first contact with research, followed by a three-year component devoted to research activities and the writing of a thesis. The first-year courses will take place alternately in the two universities and will be taught either in Portuguese or in English as deemed adequate. The thesis may be written either in portuguese or in english.

The second edition of the Programme starts October 2008 and will be held at the University of Minho. Over the last three years of their studies, students are expected to work for their thesis at the university where the supervisor is affiliated.
